Loan Periods

Adult new books, tablets, and Kindle eReaders circulate for 2 weeks. DVDs, CDs, and Video Games may be borrowed for one week. Most other materials are loaned for three weeks. Fast View DVDs are loaned for three days. Most Farmington and Barney Library materials may be renewed once if no other patron is waiting for the material. Items may be renewed in person, by phone or online.

Log into your library account by visiting the catalog to check on the current due dates of your items. If you are signed up for e-mail notifications, courtesy reminders are sent two days before an item’s due date.

Limited Quantity Items

The checkout limit for your card is a total of 100 items with select items being available to check out in limited quantities including:

  • 7 DVDs
  • 2 Board Games
  • 1 Museum Pass
  • 1 eReader/Tablet
  • 2 Video Games
  • 2 Library of Things items
  • 1 Kids’ Activity Kit
  • 3 Tonie Figures
  • 3 Yoto Cards

Fines

The overdue fine rate for the following items are as follows:

  • Laptops $25.00/day
  • Museum Passes $5.00/day
  • Tablets & Kindles $5.00/day
  • Yoto Players & Cards $1.00/day
  • Library of Things items $5.00/day

Teacher Loans

The Farmington Libraries welcomes and encourages use of the collection by teachers. Teachers may borrow select library materials for use in teaching situations for 6 weeks. The request for a teacher loan must be made prior to staff beginning the checkout process.

Materials which may not be borrowed for 6 weeks include:

  • Library of Things Items
  • DVDs
  • Museum passes
  • New materials
  • Items marked non-renewable
  • Personal use items

Teachers are here defined as any adult who works with children in a teaching capacity:

  • Public/private school K-12 teachers
  • Nursery school/Preschool teachers
  • Daycare providers
  • Homeschoolers

Holds

Log into your library account by visiting the catalog to place holds, or by contacting us by phone or email. When your holds are available to pick up, you’ll be contacted by email or phone.  Holds will be held for 5 days. 

Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary loans can be requested by Farmington residents by calling the Adult Information Services Department at 860-673-6791. We only can request items from public libraries in Connecticut. We obtain all our items from the Connecticut State Library catalog. Items are checked out for three weeks, while DVDs are loaned for 7 days. New items are not available via interlibrary loan. Patrons are limited to 3 items per month.
