TEEN BOOK REVIEW

Dumplin' by: Julie Murphy

Summary: Sixteen-year-old Willowdean wants to prove to everyone in her small Texas town that she is more than just a fat girl, so, while grappling with her feelings for a co-worker who is clearly attracted to her, Will and some other misfits prepare to compete in the beauty pageant her mother runs.

Patron Review:

Willow dean Dickson is a self proclaimed fat girl who hates being called Dumplin (but her mom insists). She and her best friend Ellen have always managed to navigate life just fine, until Willowdean takes a job at Harpy's, a nearby fast food restaurant.  There she meets Bo, the private school jock who surprisingly seems to like her back.  Instead of feeling confident in her new relationship, Will begins to doubt herself. So she plans a way to get her confidence back, which is joining the local beauty pageant, set to prove she has as much a right as any girl to be up there.
