On Wednesday, September 11, an enthusiastic crowd came to the Main Library to celebrate music with a Spanish Classical Guitar performance by Dave Giardina on guitar and Karina Hernandez on violin and vocals. The crowd appreciated the sound and skill of this talented duo so much that for the first time at one of our musical events the audience called for an encore, which Dave and Karina graciously provided and which also led to a standing ovation.
The set list consisted of Spanish-influenced songs from around the world, including Mexico, Brazil, and Venezuela, and some that were written specifically for other instruments that Dave had re-mixed for the guitar. The songs they performed included many fan favorites:
Villano and Canarios by Gaspar Sanz
Oriental by Enrique Granados
El Paño Moreno, El Circulo Majico and Danza Ritual el Fuego by Manuel deFalla
Tierra Mestiza by Gerardo Tamez
Maria Elena by Barcelata
Alma Llanera by Pedro Gutierrez
Malaguena Salerosa – trad Mex
To answer the question that many attendees asked: We do hope to bring Dave and Karina back to the Farmington Main Library for a future performance. For those of you who would like to hear them in the meantime, Dave and Karina perform at the restaurant Barcelona in West Hartford on Thursday nights beginning at 8:30 PM.
