A few months ago, I tried creating a unique blog post using the Maker Space’s iMac and Blue’s Yeti USB Microphone to experiment with creating and editing audio and vocal narration. Using a combination of our Maker Space equipment and audio editing software, patrons have the potential to create their own podcasts right here in the library. Since I had a lot of fun experimenting with these capabilities, I decided that it was finally time to take it to the next level and actually create a podcast for the library.
So I would like to introduce to you the Farmington Libraries first ever local history podcast – Farmington Retold, A Digital Time Capsule! Available for streaming through both PodOmatic and through iTunes, Farmington Retold…
“Aims to revisit, preserve, and celebrate some of Farmington’s most important moments throughout history. Each episode represents a slice of history stored within a digital time capsule – exploring the past, capturing the present, and embracing the future of Farmington, Connecticut.” – Sarah Mias (2017)
Farmington Retold highlights both past, historical events pertaining to the Farmington community, as well as present moments as they unfold in real time, both inside and outside of the library. If you like local history and eager to learn more about the Farmington community and other important happenings at the library – both past and present – please take a listen to the podcast, and subscribe to catch the latest episodes as soon as they are uploaded! For now, check out the first episode here featuring a conversation with Farmington resident Gloria Holcomb Barlow from 2006 as part of the Farmington Libraries Oral History Project.
If you are interested in trying something similar using our Maker Space equipment and facilities, please visit Information Services on the second floor of the Main Library. You can also reach us by phone at 860-673-6791, or by email at FLREF@FarminingtonLibraries.org. Just ask for Sarah and she can point you in the right direction!
Happy listening, Farmington!
