Evening hours, holds, lobby-side pickup and fines

Thank you for your patience and understanding! Please read below for updates to our services and policies.

Are you still finding items around your house that you checked out in March? No worries! The library will be offering “fine amnesty” for all returned items! Overdue items checked out between 3/14/20 and 10/4/20 will not be charged a fine. All items checked out after October 5th will accrue fines as normal.

The Main and Barney Libraries will be open on Wednesday evenings. Our new hours are as follows:

Main Library: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays: 9:30 AM to 2 PM.

Wednesdays: 2:30 – 7 PM

Barney Library: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays: 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM

Wednesdays: 2:30 – 7 PM

Please see below for holds information and our lobby-side pickup.

You will now be able to place up to 10 items on hold!
Your past holds will be honored and you will be notified when they are available. To pick up your items, please visit the libraries during open hours.

If you need help managing your holds or have any questions please call us at (860) 673-6791 or e-mail us at the following e-mail addresses:
Adult Services: flref@farmingtonlibraries.org
Children’s Services: flchild@farmingtonlibraries.org
Lending Services: ADMIN@farmingtonlibraries.org Barney: BARNEY@farmingtonlibraries.org

To log into your account and place a hold, please visit the library’s catalog. For help understanding how to place a hold, check out this video.

Orders can still be placed by email, phone or in person. Staff is available to answer calls during the libraries’ open hours. To order by phone please dial (860) 673-6791. Select 4 for the Children’s Department, 3 for the Lending Services, 5 for Adult Information Services and 2 for the Barney Library.

If you visit us as a family please keep the number of people in your group as small as possible. Children (other than infants) will need to wear face masks while in the building. Those who are over 65 years of age or who have health conditions that make them more susceptible to infections should keep their visits to the library to a minimum.

Curbside service has moved indoors, you may pick up your items marked with your last name at the tables set up in the lobby. There will be no seating areas, print versions of magazines may only be checked out and newspapers will not be available. The book drop must be used for all materials being returned. Oversized items that do not fit into the book drop are the only materials that may be brought into the building.

For the time being you will not be able to browse the shelves and the Children’s Room will be closed. Passport services will not be available. A limited number of public computers will be available at the main library by appointment only, with a one hour time limit. Computers will not be available at Barney. We will answer reference questions, provide reader’s advisory, and assist you with using the library’s catalog to identify materials you want to borrow, which a staff member will then retrieve for you. You will be able to send a fax or have copies made at the main library – a staff member will assist you with those services.

The past few months have been a challenging time for everyone, and we wish we could go back to normal immediately. We realize that the temporary measures we have put into place will have a big impact on your customary library experience. It is essential, though, that we take things slowly at first in order to ensure that we can remain open now that we are permitted to do so. As time goes on we will gradually reinstate more of the outstanding services that you have come to expect from us. Meanwhile, we look forward to welcoming you back!
