Ask a Question

Reference services are available to everyone in-person, by phone, fax, TDD and e-mail. The e-mail address for adult reference is flref@farmingtonlibraries.org. The reference staff will check e-mail messages several times during the day, and expect to respond within 24 hours. Please include a telephone number in case they need additional information or have any questions concerning your request. The service can be used to place holds on materials and to request answer to specific reference questions, but we may reserve the right to limit the amount of information requested, as we do not have scanning capabilities at this time.

Computer training classes

The Farmington Library and Barney Library offer training in basic Internet usage, Class information and registration online can be found here. For more information call 673-6791 or the Barney Library at 677-6866.

Materials available for loan

The library has all best selling fiction and nonfitcion books. We also subscribe to several magazines. DVDs, VHS cassettes, musics CDs, CD ROM programs and Audiobooks (both CD and Cassette)round out our collection.

Lists of New Fiction, DVD movies, Books on CD and Teen books are available online here. A link to our bestselling fiction and nonfiction lists is here. Place holds in the cataog (instructions here) or by emailing us the title, your name and barcode.

Library Databases

The library now subscribes to several databases which augment our traditional reference sources. Many are available from home. Others are available only at the library.

They include Reference USA, Ancestry.com Library Edition (in library use only), Encyclopedia Britannica, Practice Tests and College finder, Historic New York Times and Historic Hartford Courant

  • Hartford Courant - 1985-1993
  • New York Times - 1966-2003

Interlibrary Loan

Materials not owned by the Farmington libraries may be requested by contacting the Reference Department. There is a $5.00 charge for books retrieved from outside our state payable upon pick up. More details here.
